Two-wire AC sensors
These are operated in series with the load. While in locked
state, a low leakage current flows due to their functional
properties and a voltage drop occurs at the conducting
switch.
Switching example:

N
BU
The model number for this type of sensor includes the ref-
erence -W. They are supplied as:
•
NC contact (WÖ),
•
NO contact (WS),
•
NC contact or NO contact (W)
(
programmable wiring).
Two-wire universal current sensors
These are operated in series with the load. They
can be connected to either direct current or alter-
nating current supply voltages. They are overload
protected and short-circuit proof. While in locked
state, a low leakage current flows due to their func-
tional properties and a voltage drop occurs at the
conducting switch.

The model number for this type of sensor includes
the reference -U. They are supplied as:
•
NC contact (UÖ),
•
NO contact (US),
•
NC contact or NO contact (U) (programmable wiring).
Two-wire NAMUR sensors
NAMUR sensors (Normenarbeitsgemeinschaft für Mess-
und Regelungstechnik der chemischen Industrie) manu-
factured in accordance with EN 60947-5-6 (VDE 0660
Part 212) are two-wire sensors that have a constant (type
N) or non-constant (type N0) travel/current characteristic.

The model number for this type of sensor includes the ref-
erence -N or -N0.
They are supplied as:
•
NC contact (N/N0),
•
NO contact (1N),
•
Dual channel NC contact (N4).
NAMUR sensors are connected to external switch ampli-
fiers that convert the current variation into a binary output
signal.

Pepperl+Fuchs GmbH offers a range of switch amplifiers
for NAMUR sensors for use in hazardous and nonhazard-
ous applications.
