This sensor solves the problem 100%. It features a 60 mm wide
detection field for the reliable detection of objects whose front
edges can vary, e.g., different types of pallets, bags, packaged
objects, or other items without a clearly defined shape.
Features:
•
Retroreflective area sensor with six light beams in a standard
photoelectric sensor housing
•
Replaces connection-compatible single-beam photoelectric
sensors
•
Reflection and foil-resistant, shock and vibration-resistant
•
Uses six beams to generate a 60 mm wide detection area
throughout the entire detection range, without a blind zone
•
Constant detection of objects as small as 12 mm within the
entire detection range
•
Reliable detection of the front edge of the object irrespective
of its shape, position, or surface finish
•
Suitable for low temperature ranges of down to -30 °C
Application examples
•
Reliable front edge detection for a wide range of objects, such
as pallets with different heights and varying reflectivity, as well
as dirt and damage
•
Detection of objects regardless of their shape, e.g., bags or
other objects without a clearly defined shape
•
Detection of objects regardless of their texture, e.g., reflective
foil-wrapped objects
•
Reliable location-independent detection of falling objects,
e.g., in ejection control
•
Overhang control
•
As a muting sensor

Optical Data Couplers
Optical data couplers use the light for the wireless
transmission of information between two points, in
cases where wire-based communication is not
economically feasible. They perform a protocol-
free transfer of the data from the interface to the
receiver and make it available at the serial inter-
face, thus solving communication problems with stock feeders,
forklift trucks, automated guide vehicles, or monorail conveyors.
Devices are available with different detection ranges and transfer
rates. The latest version, the LS680-DA, is the fastest optical data
coupler on the market and enables connection to Fast Ethernet
networks without reducing the transfer rate for the first time.

Our product range includes optical data couplers for
parallel data transfer as well as devices for serial data transfer.
•
Parallel data transfer:
An optical data coupler can transfer 8 bits bidirectionally. The
signals in the device are converted into a serial bit sequence.
In the receiver, the data is reassigned to the parallel outputs.
Interference-immune FSK modulation is used to transfer the
binary signals.
•
Serial data transfer:
Our serial optical data couplers also use the FSK procedure.
The data at the interface is transferred free of protocols and
then re-output to the serial interface in the receiver.
Many devices with a serial interface are also available in
a version with a red emitter light. These are always used if
parallel transfer paths need to be created and cross-talk with
the adjacent infrared path needs to be eliminated.
Photoelectrics With Unequaled Benefits
Pepperl+Fuchs photoelectric sensors easily cope with extreme
influences such as excessive ambient light, high humidity, or dirt.
Which is why most of our standard sensors bear the VISO+ qual-
ity symbol.
High priority is given to functional reliability. The sensors operate
extremely reliably as the emitters generate between 10 and 100
times more light than is required for reliable detection. As a re-
sult, they operate perfectly even in very dirty, dusty environments
or with inaccurate alignment. The high degree of insensitivity to
ambient light further increases operational reliability and allows
them to be used in the direct vicinity of frequency-controlled en-
ergy-saving lighting. A high degree of immunity to cross-talk al-
lows several sensors to be positioned closely next to each other.
The features at a glance:
•
Very high excess gain
•
Very high degree of immunity to ambient light, even with
frequency-controlled energy-saving lighting
•
Protection against cross-talk.
